Lake Superior Family FunFest

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

funfestThe tropics will be the theme at the 20th Annual Lake Superior Family FunFest at the DECC (Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center) this Saturday-Sunday, February 23-24, 2013.  “It’s Spring Break for many, but with work schedules and budgets not everyone is able to take that vacation to Florida or the tropics so we decided this year to bring that atmosphere to the Northland” said Tracy Lundeen, event producer.  “Leis, palm trees and tropical music will enhance the theme” he added.

FunFest attendees will be treated to a weekend of fun and exhibits including everything from music to sports, recreation, education, caricature drawings, face painting, cake walk, pampering and much more.  Most of the exhibits will be interactive.  Spiderman is scheduled to be on hand, FOX21 TV is bringing a green screen so attendees can get in front of a camera and be a meteorologist, a Le’ Salon will present a “kids spa’, Engwall’s Corn Maze will have their Box Maze in the exhibit hall, Zack “Jungle Boy” Walters and Al Sands will be there to “meet and greet” and do demonstrations, Kelvin Saline will do magic shows , there will be story reading by “Blue Water Bob, Champ from the UMD Bulldogs will be on hand, zoo animals from the Lake Superior Zoo, and many other fun things to see, do and experience.  “FunFest has always been a great cure for cabin fever. It’s an event for the entire family and a great way to break up the winter doldrums” said Lundeen.  “This is an event you can spend the entire day at.”

For many, the highlight, and perhaps most unique part, of FunFest is an over 25,000 square foot carnival midway in South Pioneer Hall.  Pioneer Hall is completely filled with carnival rides and games just like you see at a summer county fair but everything is inside.  This is the only presentation of its kind in Minnesota during the winter months and an enormously popular feature at FunFest.

FunFest admission is $6 at the door.  $1 off coupons are available by going to lundeenproductions.com/funfest

Carnival rides are additional.  FunFest expo hours are Saturday 9AM to 4PM and Sunday 11AM to 4PM.  FunFest is also on facebook.  Just type in LakeSuperiorFamilyFunFest in the search bar.

A number of charities and organizations benefit from FunFest including Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, MS Society, Shiners, VCAP, Just Kids Dental and more.  FunFest is sponsored by Benna Ford Roush and Paper Capers .
